Sure, competition throughout the compact SUV class is no doubt fierce. But it's nothing the 2017 Ford Escape can't handle.

Often regarded as one of the best small crossovers in the biz, the Escape was recently reviewed by Autotrader pundit Debra Shigley. Check the clip below to hear what she had to say about it:

Beneath the bonnet of the base S trim, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine holds court with a six-speed automatic transmission. This four-banger is rated at a respectable 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, and is only available with front-wheel drive.

The mid-level SE model, meanwhile, gets a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that's good for 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.

And then, there's the top-tier 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. Optional on the SE trim, this four-cylinder churns out an incredible 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.
