Autonomous vehicles have been a dream ever since their popularization in 1950's-era science fiction. Back then, of course, the dream seemed impossible -- just a futuristic fantasy for the distant "year 2000."

Now, almost every major automaker -- and several tech companies -- have come forward with an autonomous vehicle concept.

It tends to make news when groups that aren't part of the auto industry release a self-driving vehicle... but perhaps the top name in the autonomy game is, and has been, Ford.

This year, Ford is tripling the size of its self-driving fleet (based on the Ford Fusion Hybrid) bringing the grand total up to 30 cars. That number puts them ahead of any other manufacturer.

It's not just the size of your fleet that counts, but experience.

Though you may not be aware of it, Ford has been working on self-driving vehicles for 10 years, starting with the third DARPA Challenge at which an autonomous Ford F-250 made it to the finals.

The results of self-driving research have yielded smarter safety features for new Ford vehicles, like forward collision warning, active city stop, and adaptive cruise control.

Test drive one today at Baierl Ford.
