Today, Ford made the exciting announcement that it is partnering with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and Detroit Newspapers in Education to celebrate the contributions of African-American men. The collaboration will involve an online supplement as well as an essay contest that will award up to $10,000 in scholarships.
The online supplement is supported by a teacher guide and classroom poster, and is designed to highlight the major contributions of African Americans in history. As part of the African American Men of Courage program, essay contest participants will be asked to write about how they demonstrate courage, and how this can contribute to success in their own life and their community.
“African American history is literally filled with ‘Men of Courage,’” said Juanita Moore, president and CEO, Wright Museum. “The thousands of schoolchildren across Michigan who participate in this year’s essay contest will be inspired by their endeavors, which demonstrate dedication, hard work, and the courage to break through barriers to achieve one’s grandest dreams.”
Essay award winners will be presented with scholarships at the Ford Freedom Awards event in Detroit on May 17.
